Fall

Welcome crisp air and tail ends of hurricanes. Welcome harvest moons and warm afternoons.

Strawflowers and tomatoes are two of my favourite things about autumn. Design*Sponge. beautifully depicts both. Further, is it strange that spotting a collection of small white pumpkins at the grocery store has made me incredibly excited? I'm now keen to make a strawflower garland and a heirloom tomato salad. Peonies

This evening I returned home from a bbq with family with a bunch of cut peonies from my mum's garden - love! The fragrant fluffy flowers are my favourite (for now!). This centrepiece (which is actually made from garden roses not peonies) seems the perfect way to display my favourite stems in a new way. Image via Project Wedding but found via Frolic.

Jars

Arrangements similar to those of this surprise picnic wedding must make an appearance at a to-be-determined backyard soiree at our home this summer. Summer bbqs and backyard parties, complete with fruity punch, blue cheese hamburgers and Italian smokies topped high with honey mustard and basil ketchup, make me excited! Images via 100 Layer Cake.

Friday

It's Good Friday! Aren't mini bouquets in brown eggs a sweet way to celebrate Easter? We've planned to refrain from eating meat today by making lunch plans for fish and chips with family and sushi dinner plans with friends. Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend. Image via Design Sponge.

Bodega

Inspired by Blossom and Branch, I held my very own bodega 101 party yesterday (to ring in the big two-six). With a handful of lovely ladies (six, including myself) and twelve grocery store variety bodega bouquets (we're talking approximately 100 stems of roses, gerbra daisies, freesia, tulips, lilies and daffodils), we set out to create our own springtime arrangements. Lots of fun was had by all! Many thanks are in order to my friends for making it a special afternoon.

Rehearsal

This past Saturday evening, over dinner, a good friend and I dished about our upcoming weddings. We shared our invitation concepts and centrepiece ideas, and talked about our grooms' attire. We also uncovered that our takes on the rehearsal are very different - she sees it as a casual time where the bridal party gets to hang out in shorts and capris, whereas I see the event as a full fledged dress rehearsal complete with cocktail dresses, pumps and ties all around.

I haven't found my rehearsal dress yet, but I am already thinking about a bouquet for the event. I've considered making my own from a local bodega or fashioning one from ribbons and bows from my shower or even buying one of Emersonmade's fabric bouquets. But right now, I am loving these brooch bouquets. Aren't they fun? I'd love to borrow brooches from the many women in my family and include them all together. All images via Fantasy Floral Designs.

Bouquet

After joyfully accepting Greg's proposal, we hid away for a few days and kept the news largely to ourselves. When we emerged from our seclusion and started to fill in close friends, we realized that there were a string of decisions to be made over the following weeks due to our relatively short engagement.

As we've scouted and confirmed vendors, we've had a lot of fun in shaping our big day. Tomorrow marks one of our last vendors to be secured - the florist. Our selection is special to me as the same shop provided the flowers that Greg gave me on the night he proposed (and they're our neighbourhood florist, which continues our goal to live in our own neighbourhood). I have a serious soft spot for window boxes.

Aren't ban.do's corsages sweet? I'd love to add one to the hip of a little black dress.

Ranunculus

Do you have a favourite flower? I've gone through spells where I've adored towering mustard sunflowers, soft pink peonies, vibrant stargazer lilies, wild and tall foxgloves, and full rhododendrons. I love Vancouver for the fact that bouncy blue hydrangeas line the sidewalks in the residential West End. Greg calls me Sweet Pea. The sight of a new flower arrangement or blooming stem often leaves me pondering whether I should change which flower is my favourite. There are so many beautiful floral inspirations.

Right now, I'm adoring ranunculus. I think they'd look great organized in a collection glass and white ceramic vases, some short and others taller, and placed in the middle of your dining table. The image of a table dressed with ranunculus makes me want to cook mushroom, chicken and white wine crepes and serve a tart homemade lemon meringue pie for dessert.
