Our Playroom: The Reveal

At long last, we put the finishing touches on Thomas' playroom yesterday afternoon. Our timing couldn't have been any more perfect because he's just started actually crawling. I feel so fortunate to have a space dedicated to play for our little man, and it's a stress reliever knowing the room is baby proof (or at least so I think!).

Playroom Inspiration

Kenzie's playroom is one of my favourites! I've been looking back at these images that I saved in my inspiration folder last summer as we prepare to dip brush in paint and transform our basement into Thomas' play space this weekend.

Wallpaper

Ok, so now I'm back on the wallpaper train of thought. This option combines wallpaper with an art wall. I could start off by colouring in a few frames and adding fun postcards and photos to the pictures for Thomas, and as he grows he could add to the collection himself. The only downside? If we were to move I'm sure parting with the wall would be incredibly difficult.

Globe

As a child, I spent hours learning the locations of countries and capital cities on maps with GeoSafari. The little geographer in me is smitten with this pillow. Via shopdirtsa.

Triangle

Coincidentally, we selected a circle motif, a symbol of unity, for our wedding to tie together various elements of the day and have chosen a triangle motif, a symbol of the number three, for our son's nursery. The meanings behind those shapes didn't occur to me until this moment! How odd is that?

Given our triangle theme, wouldn't this Diane Elson rug be perfect? However, prior to happening upon this piece, we selected a super soft grey rug for the nursery.

Scandinavia

One of our long-term plans is to spend a sabbatical in Norway (or Sweden or Denmark... we're flexible). Having only ever spent one weekend in Scandinavia (a cold and dark November weekend in Stockholm and Uppsala), I'm curious to experience more. My curiosity for the place melds with my love of all things modern and white (I know I'm on repeat here), and draws me towards the most fantastic Tumblr - From Scandinavia with Love. The eye candy is out of control.

P.S. Have I mentioned that we might take advantage of the sour, rainy weekend coming up by painting a large swath of our house white? I am so excited.

Sheets

The secret to a good night's sleep is surrounding yourself with lots of white (in my view), including white walls and white bed linens in particular. Though our bedroom is currently painted blue (a decision of the previous owner), I do hope to change the colour out at some point. I take solace in our white bed sheets and duvet though. In an effort to provide the same sense of calm for our son, I've decided to outfit his white crib with a white fitted crib sheet. Here's to hoping that this small step helps improve the likelihood of the little one sleeping through the night. Image via Alvhem Makleri.

Pillows

I love these Blue Clouds animal pillows and am inspired to fashion something similar but larger in size to use as floor pillows in the nursery and den. Image via Blue Clouds. Found via Unruly Things.

Dwell

The April 2011 edition of Dwell is my favourite to date (Greg's mom kindly gifted me a subscription for Christmas). I'm completely in love with this Finnish home. It offers so much inspiration in thinking about how we'll plan and roll out our family home.

Nursery Inspiration

Since finding out that we're having a sweet boy, I've been devouring Ohdeedoh, Wee Textile and similar blogs for nursery inspiration. Our plans are well underway with a clean lined white crib waiting in the basement for assembly, grey paint swatches stuck to the little one's bedroom wall, and visions of handmade buntings and mobiles, and a painted red vintage dresser. I know for certain that we want a soft rug for baby to play on in his room, and a storage unit to stash toys when they're not in use. We'll also have a reading corner (complete with our repurposed poang chair) and soft toys. My timeline for completion is the end of June (ideally!). We shall see how we do with that. Mobile

Isn't this felt mobile beautiful? I'd love to hang it in our den.

Living

What a fantastic round up of white living rooms!

P.S. One of the couches we're considering for our new home is a grey (ahem blue) velvet. I'm excited about the possibility of glamour.

Pop-Up

I'm thinking 100 Circular could use a splash of Kate Spade's Pop-Up London shop. All images via Kate's Facebook page.
