How to: Recover from a Sleepless Night

Our family loves sharing music together (we even take a music class on Sundays). To get geared up for a fun day (or to recover from a sleepless night), we simply have to play the right upbeat song. Vampire Weekend's A-Punk has long been a favourite of ours for this purpose.

Goddess

Goddess in the Doorway is one of my favourite solo albums of all time. It reminds me of listening to The Rolling Stones with my parents as a little girl. I'm curious what music our son will remember from his childhood when he is in his late twenties.

Rocker

My friend Josh shared this awesome rocker with me. Isn't it the perfect place to perch with your loved one and debrief on your workday? Image via Bless This Stuff.

P.S. I'd forgotten about this tune, and am now listening to it on repeat.

Dragonette

Awhile back, Greg switched our morning alarm from a pulsing beat to a top 40 radio station. Generally, the pop music makes for an upbeat way to embrace the morning. This morning, we awoke to Martin Solveig and Dragonette's Hello. I love this tune! What songs do like to wake up to?

There's something about the theatres and concert halls of the past. So glam. Via Bippity.

Christmas Music

What Christmas songs are you listening to this year?

With tonight's lecture, I'm listening to Simini's The Mummers' Song, The Pogues's Fairytale of New York (which was just profiled on Being Erica's Christmas special) and my favourite, The Royal Guardsmen's Snoopy vs. The Red Baron. Image via Cox and Cox.

It's Friday. I need lots of get-up-and-go to power through a jam-packed work day and tomorrow's move. Neon Trees is keeping me pumped up!

Galaxie

I discovered the Be Good Tanyas on a Galaxie channel on television. You know, those channels are a good way to discover new artists. I recommend turning one on when you're housecleaning.

Banquet

A great get-up-and-go tune for a Thursday morning. I'm still listening to our wedding reception music play list religiously.

Clementine

Some of my sweetest childhood memories are of my grandma singing me to sleep. Oh My Darling Clementine was one of her specialities (this modern version rocks). Fittingly, Darling Clementine is my new favourite Etsy shop. Tea towels above available for purchase here.
