Backyard

Our yard is an adult space (think manicured bushes, pebble walkways and a slate patio, and no grass), so making our large two level patio as baby friendly as possible for Tom this summer. is a priority. Sure we have two lovely playgrounds (including one with an outdoor pool!) within 5 minutes walking distance of our home (yay for living in an urban neighbourhood)!, but we also want Tom to enjoy being closer to home occasionally.

The upper level of our deck, which is accessible by patio doors from our kitchen, will be the perfect space for the boy to play while we bbq, so we're going to buy a wooden gate system to make the space safe and outfit the deck with some weather resistant foam mats to prevent splinters and bumps.

I'd also like to hang a swing from the upper level of the patio so that it is accessible on the lower level (I love this baby swing!) and to buy a standing hammock for us to take naps in the shade together. This bench would also be the perfect cheerful addition to our space.

When Tom's older, I hope he has a tree house (but that's a plan for a larger home and a bigger yard). Do you dream about making changes to your outdoor living space now that you have a child?

Chair

Bed

One of the main things I love about our Stokke Tripp Trapp is that it can serve as an adult chair long after its uses as a high chair and booster seat are needed. I'm always searching for baby furniture and gear that can do double duty.

Since being born, Thomas has spent time sleeping in a bassinet, (briefly) in a crib and now in our bed (co-sleeping has saved my life... but more about that in another post). I don't worry about him getting too used to sleeping with us, because he's outgrown being nursed to sleep and napping in my arms without any prodding or efforts from me, so I'm sure when he's ready he'll show us, in his own way, that he's ready to sleep solo in his crib or a toddler bed. In preparation for those cues, I've been searching for a toddler bed (we seem to be one of the few couples we know that didn't go for a crib that converts into a toddler bed and then double bed). My find? The P'Kolino bed that converts into a stylish chair when no longer needed as a bed. Genius! We'll definitely be ordering one of these.

Storage

Aren't these storage containers reminiscent of houses in Ypres? Yes. Amazing? Yes. Super expensive? Yes. Cabinets available from Tulp Kids.

Playroom II

I'm getting cold feet about cladding a wall in the playroom in wallpaper. Instead, maybe a collection of twoems abstract prints would provide sufficient visual interest and colour?

We're also thinking of placing a davenport in the room to double as a place to watch movies, hold sleepovers and host guests. In terms of specifics, I'm loving this couch and this one too.

Chair

Greg brought a perfectly functional, ergonomic office chair into our relationship and boy, is it comfortable! Pretty? Not so much. I'm feeling inspired by this chair makeover on Design*Sponge. The exact fabric is available for purchase here but I'm also loving this pattern.

Plus, a super cute horizontal striped ensemble, complete with full fringe and ponytail (so cute!), also on D*S.

Pillows

In terms of seating, our living room offers only a denim couch and a matching leather arm chair and foot stool. Across the pieces we can seat 5 comfortably and 6 or 7 if people are feeling close. At our last mini party, people ended up perching on the area rug - a fact that left me slightly embarrassed after the fact (why I didn't think to pull over a few chairs form the dining room is unknown to me). On the occasion of Canada Day, a day I associate with backyard BBQ and potlucks, I'm excited to note, after writing about them a year ago, that two turquoise Solair chairs are on there way to our humble abode and we're ever so please to adopt them. Our newly stocked cocktail bar, complete with Hpnotiq, Chambord Liquor and Luxardo Limoncello, is sure to solidify many leisurely evenings spent laughing together on our stone patio. Last evening, before catching Date Night (hilarious! Tina Fey is fantastic), I happened upon two wishbone (ahem... knock off) chairs at Homesense. I am trying to determine where in our home the pair could be placed. I'd love to add a Danish flare to our happy abode. Images via Alvhem.

This hall table from Design Sponge, and these dresser knobs from Anthropologie inspire me to combine for a similar DIY storage space for our foyer.
